Preppers are often condemned for getting prepared for emergencies. I’m not sure what the reason is. There are so many emergencies we can all face, and who wants to eat out of a can when the power is out?
I live about 45 minutes from the coast of North Carolina. Hurricanes are often a problem here. Although we don’t face the full brunt of it because we’re 45 minutes inland, flooding and lack of electricity is often a problem during these storms.
The truth is that the power can go out at any time. What happens if a transformer blows up? Or maybe someone runs into a power pole? Having lived up north I can tell you that it’s not unusual for the power to go out for several days at a time. The reason is that the ice can be so heavy on the lines sometimes that it will literally pull the lines down. Then the power company comes out and repairs it.
So it’s a good idea to make sure that you’re prepared for any situation where you may not have power to cook. Here’s how to get started.
